DESTROY

raw audio recorded for the album intro. Guitar by Sean.

March 1995 - First Destroy session at Big Sound, Westbrook ME. Jon Lammie engineering. It lasted 4 days. Sean Griffin on guitar, George Tsiaras on bass.

Matt - The smell coming from the paper factory down the road was heinous. We thought that someone had been murdered recently and been buried in a shallow grave next to the studio. We were honestly freaked out and out of our element. But we had lots of booze and weed and a few guys had some blow. We improvised a few songs that ended up on the record. That’s what drugs are for, …then goes back to school, Nancy seduces the couples. I finished those up at the next session, and the label hated the rough mixes. But the great Deb Klein stepped up and told Cherrydisc to let us finish.

Colin Decker engineering. Seven days up there this time and finished the record. Sean made some amazing sketches in his journal. See above.

M- It was a lot of fun and harrowing to finish an album with only two or three songs to start out. The rest was improvised. We would just record as many riffs as I could think of, or sometimes Sean or George would come up with something. Sean Griffin came up with the riffs for Finish Me Later and Deportation Ritual. I told Colin to not let us go much over two minutes on each of our little jams, and he had to stop us a few times. So we’d record these riffs and then later go through and see which ones I could easily sing the lyrics on. The lyrics had already been written. A lot of them for a creative writing class I had taken in college.
