The beginnings....
February 1986 - Aaron Duke introduces Zeph Courtney to Matt Martin in Manomet, MA. 1986-91 - Playing as Magic Fist. We would jam with other kids from Plymouth and Manomet. Played a couple parties on the South Shore of Massachusetts. Oct 1991- Sept 1992 - Playing as Chevy S-10. A dozen or so shows in Boston. More 4-tracks. Three 8-track demos.
May 1992 Cambridge, MA Middle East
Andre Delbos-The first gig was around mid May 1992 at the Middle East. There was only the upstairs back then and the club had picnic benches set up in front of the stage. If you were in a band the club would pay you in free falafel and hummus. Matt and Zeph had recorded a bunch of demos and somehow I was asked to fill in on bass. We practiced as a three piece at a space around the corner from Harrison Ave for a week or two before the show. M/Z had arranged for a television on stage which played monster truck video and Matt drank this pre-mixed concoction of Tang and vodka. I think it was called Tango.
August 1993 - Playing as Chevy Heston. Matt tries to become the person “Chevy Heston”. Matt and Zeph recorded their first record for Cherrydisc at Squid Hell in Jamaica Plain, MA. It took two days.
Matt- I didn’t use any amps, only a Sans Amp. So stupid. The execution is pretty weak on this record and I’ve tried to burn any copy I find laying around.
September 1993 - Matt moves to San Francisco.
August 1993 - March 1995 - A few more shows when Matt would be in Boston
