Tuesday, February 6 1996 Boston MA the Rat (w/ Ghost of Tony Gold)

Matt - Our first show in our hometown in a while. We played well and I was in a good mood. Hung out with our friend Nik Rainey, the writer. Lots of people we hadn't seen in a while. Touching moments. Was hopeful about someday returning to Boston and playing great shows. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Zeph - Probably still our best show in Boston as far as the playing goes. One of our best ever. The crowd was good.

Thursday, February 8 1996 Morgantown WV Nyabinghi Dance Hall

M - This is one our favorite places to play. The bar is well stocked, the bartenders pour strong, the juke box is well stocked, the pool table is good, the lighting is good, the sound is good, the owner is good, the place is extremely filthy and it all takes place in the beautiful mountains of Morgantown, West Virginia.

Winston - Really cool place where everyone was super nice and we felt right at home. I looked at the empty stage and imagined Black Flag playing there. We played pretty well, and afterwards the owner let us hang out and drink after closing.

Z - This was our first time at this club. Greg the owner treated us so well and obviously really loved the band. His buddy Barlow booked a bunch of heavy bands and said he'd see what he could do for us. People were there and getting into it.

Friday, February 9 1996 Louisville KY the Cherokee

M - My dad came to this one and got us a room at the Holiday Inn. It was probably one of the most forgettable shows, nobody came. Except for my dad and stepmom, who lived in Indiana. We were opening for this band of fifty year-old biker types, playing classic rock. We stayed another night around Louisville and got a room at a motel that had the Playboy channel. We watched a talk show with these two girls pretending to love each other and guys were calling in and they kept talking about anal sex, it was kind of annoying. I think I got more turned-on watching the Brady Bunch movie.

Sunday, February 11 1996 Memphis TN Barrister's

M - We got this show just a few days before. Greg recommended us to Chris, who owned the club. We were playing after a movie. The movie was cheap art-school drama, but Southern camp. We played with another band of kids who were pretty good. The filmmaker was pissed because we sort of crashed his night. Very nice people at the club.

W - The pyramid thing by the river creeped me out on the way into town. Barrister's had a beautiful bar with an upstairs balcony--kinda like upstairs at the Rat except more old-timey and with more mahogany. I've had many nightmares take place here. Later in the van we had an intellectual discussion of the Rod Stewart stomach pump story.

Monday, February 12 1996 Kalamazoo MI Club Soda

M - We had some friends in Kalamazoo, so it was fun. Monday nights are the night for this club. A lot of people were there, and the atmosphere was good. That night five of us shared a bed, just for that slumber party feeling, so nobody slept. Some of us went to a gay bar where they have karaoke. Zeph did Son of Preacher Man and Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood. Winston did We Built this City (on Rock and Roll).
