Matt - Even though we broke down for two hours in Cheyenne WY, we still made it in time to grab a drink, set-up, and play. Wyoming was beautiful and we drove west into the steep rolling hills until the treacherous mountains of north-east Utah. There weren’t many people there. Some people offered their living room floor to us and at that point our next show wasn’t for another five days. They had a ton of movies on tape. We watched at least ten movies. We went to a little keg party one night and met some nice people. Rick and Jason and their friends. They told us about a place to play called Burt’s Tiki Lounge. It seemed like we were there for a long time. But it wasn’t that bad.
Winston - An epic haul that covered an average of 60 miles an hour for 20 straight hours. Western Kansas and Eastern Colorado was really beautiful in the daytime. After Cheyenne it was completely dark except for miles of red taillights and oncoming headlights. We got to the venue with minutes to spare. We heard the beer was weird in Utah but were happy to drink it anyway.
Our idea of great R&R was a bowl of cold rice and a little Forrest Gump.
Zeph - These people put us up for the whole week and they were practically never there. Like, I mean out of three or four roommates only a couple of them ever even stopped buy for five days. It was like it was our house with a free video store in the basement. We had watched everything any of us were remotely interested in before we busted out Forrest Gump, which I had never seen. We hated it so much that we watched the entire thing and then Winston and I watched it again just to marvel at it. It was the centennial of Utah’s statehood and there was a Ken Burns style mini-series thing about it on the local PBS. We watched about 12 or 15 hours of television a day that week.
Thursday, February 29 1996 Seattle WA The Off Ramp
M - It was punk night and we weren’t. It was a weird night, with no one watching the bands. Just a few friends. Northwest cities seem to be healthier, but we were ready to take a little break.
Friday, March 1 1996 Portland OR Satyricon
M - This was the last show before returning to San Francisco. They have a cafe next door and the food is pretty good. But I was feeling a little sick and ill at ease. I was going to drive the entire way back.
Sunday, March 3 1996 San Francisco CA Bottom of the Hill
Z - It was totally dead. We were back home in SF but I didn’t really have a place to stay. I went to Atlanta for a few days after this show.
