tour 3.02
Tuesday, May 21 1996 Las Vegas NV to San Diego CA
Carol - Checked out. Had $3.99 lunch buffet at the Hacienda. walked over to MGM lost about $20. all defeated we head over to San Diego. couldn’t get in touch with Jen, the girl we stayed with the last time we were here. tried crashin on Ocean Beach but a cop showed up and told us to get lost. he actually tipped us to go to Mission Park Beach so we went and there were lots of trailers and other vehicles obviously crashing there. had the most gross fish burrito at some 24hr taqueria. it made me have diarrhea. border patrol.
Zeph - Slept on the lawn in this little park at the beach and got soaked by sprinklers.
Wednesday, May 22 1996 San Diego CA The Velvet
Matt - The Velvet really sucked for us that night. The bands we played with let us crash with them. I think Roman hung out with them, but I slept in the van and didn’t feel like being social. These guys were blasting the original cast recording of Jesus Christ Superstar and I remember a couple bass lines were pretty funky. We were supposed to play the Alligator Lounge in Santa Monica the next night but they got shutdown by the Health Dept.
C - we are parked right outside the velvet. it’s also right next to the San Diego airport runways and a railroad track. i had some nasty vegetable fried rice. it’s only a little past 6 and everyone’s bored out of their fuckin minds. there are airplanes coming in and going out in all direction. the club isn’t even open yet. I’m so bored but there’s nothing to do but sit and wait. i don’t know what to wear for tonight’s show. the weather sucks. damp and cold and gray. not what i expected of San Diego at all. couldn’t drink any beer for some reason and didn’t feel like playing. we stayed with the people from the band who played before and after us. Last of the Juanitas was one of the bands. didn’t want to socialize with anybody and talked to a very few people all night. got depressed over the sounds of the keyboard. me, Matt and Zeph slept in the van outside the house of people we were hanging out with.
Z - Matt lost his keys for a little while. We have this dead bolt padlock thing that goes up through the rear bumper of the van and into the door. Matt had the only key on his ring. We found it eventually. Roman was laughing at us.
Thursday, May 23 1996 Interstate 10, CA / AZC - we left San Diego pretty early, as soon as we got up. we used their bathroom and left without a thank you or good-bye. on the way to Tucson, Arizona. not much to look at. just dry air & dust & mountains & deserts. today was a dead day. i guess the weather isn’t as bad as it could’ve been. the van was acting weird. we pulled into a truck stop on the way. touring is hard work. it sucks a lot of energy out of you mentally & physically. all tired and worn out from monotony and boredom. we fell asleep in the van next to a big truck. our LA show fell through. we drove out to Joshua tree instead. once we were there we found out that we had to pay to see the stupid trees so we left.
C - Matt got up around 6 in the morning and found Roman sleeping outside the van on the cement.
