tour 3.01
The third tour begins here. From San Francisco. Having taken 6 weeks off, after a partial birth aborted tour in the spring, we lost Sean and Winston and got Roman Bolks to play bass with us. Roman rehearsed once and it was fine.
Saturday, May 18 1996 Salt Lake City UT
Burt’s Tiki Lounge
Zeph - Carol was back with us. About 4 days before the tour, Winston and Sean left and we got Roman Bolks on bass. I met him the day before this show and then we drove to SLC from San Francisco after our Reno show canceled the night before. The amps didn’t work right. It was kind of hot. We were the only band and played the same set twice. This time we stayed with Rick and Jason and had a much better time.
Matt -You’d think that Salt Lake City would not be fun for us, but it’s pretty laid back where we are playing and people are really friendly.
Carol - we are crossing Nevada. only a couple more hrs to SLC. Zeph & Roman got some liquor because Utah has a fucked up state law about buying and selling liquor. it’s really flat & wet around here. not much to look at except for endless mush of a land. i think about ruby (our cat) & how he’s doing. i love ruby. the weather is awful. damp & cold. played at Burt’s Tiki Lounge. it was ok. Mark the owner was pretty cool, pretty generous. any bar owner who gives you free smokes gotta be cool.
Sunday, May 19 1996 - Salt Lake City UT
C - stayed at this 30 year-old guy Rick’s house. a pot luck dinner party at night. Me & Matt went to Smith’s and bought 2lbs. of red snapper for their pot luck. Matt fried them up pretty good and we ate all of it. Matt took an expired Vicodin and couldn’t move for the rest of the night. we left for Las Vegas around 1am.
Monday, May 20 1996 Las Vegas NV
C - we arrived in Vegas pretty early. waited around till 11:00 am to check in at the Hacienda. i won some nickels. Vegas is pretty at night but there really is nothing to do there but gamble. with no money Vegas sucks. the weather is awful. hot & dry. we walked over to Luxor & the Excaliber, where i won the nickels. i spent about $40 on hotel.
Z - I won 30 bucks on nickel slots while Carol and Matt were checking in at the front desk.
M - We stopped in Vegas on the way from Utah. Roman gambled for fifteen minutes and then sat in the van the rest of the day. It was at least 105 degrees outside. We messed with nickel slots mostly and buffet food. We didn’t gamble much but we still needed some $ so we got Cherrydisc to wire us money to the Hacienda Hotel, which was nearing the end of it’s run on a dying section of the Strip. Good times.
