tour 2.03
Sunday, March 24 1996 Cambridge MA - Middle East upstairs

Monday, April 15 1996 Grand Rapids MI The Intersection
Matt - We picked up Zeph at the airport in Pittsburgh. Carol was back in SF to finish school and it was back to the four-piece. This was a Tuesday night open-mic thing and we were only there because the owner “really liked us” and decided to fill a Tuesday for us. I know that the beer sucked and that we didn’t get enough of it. I forget if we even played but a metal band loved us. Some dude sang “Killing Me Softly with Her Song”
Tuesday, April 16 1996 Madison WI the Chamber
Z - This place was booked by Brian Brech from Pachinko who also books O’Cayz so we thought it would be OK but it wasn’t. Brian got us drunk on boiler-makers and we read The Onion. The first and only other band, Human Horsey were actually tolerable in a sincerely self destructive way. The lead singer got into a fist fight in front of the club while we were setting up and the crowd that had been gradually accumulating and becoming not so bad immediately rushed outside, never to return.
Wednesday, April 17 1996 Chicago IL Lounge Ax
M - It ended up being a free night because Pansy Division had canceled. We stayed with Scotty Fakir.
Thursday, April 18 1996 - Memphis TN Barrister’s
Z - A completely worthless night.
Friday, April 19 1996 Bloomington IN Rhino’s
M - All ages venue. No smoking and no booze. In a strip mall. Some punks who had never liked another band that one of us had been in were there and didn’t like us either but were still cool. Staple Gun played. They are our biggest fans in Bloomington but they moved.
Z - We went to a teenage punk-rock party and drank their beer and talked shit.
Saturday, April 20 1996 Austin TX Emo’s
M - Chicago to Memphis to Bloomington to Austin. We don’t even remember but Zeph puked in the van and we went swimming the next day in Mary and Liz’s pool and Sean cleaned the puke while Zeph was still passed out. We had opened for Sixteen Deluxe who were sort of our friends until that night anyway. It was very hot. We drove to Norman and got in at about 3 in the morning and went to John Moonyham’s house who we had never met before and never seen since.
Monday, April 22 1996 Kansas City MO Grand Emporium w/Thinkin Fellers and Low
M - We had been looking forward to this show. We had no fuckin money and were eating crumbs. This band Low was really good and then Thinkin Fellers played for a while and then we played as everyone left. We got stiffed. We decided to go home.
Z - We had about another two weeks worth of shows but we canceled them all. We were out of money with three days off coming up. We played after the Thinkin Fellers had been up there for about 2 hours. It was like 1AM. The promoter wouldn’t pay us because she said we didn’t play for the entire set length but there was literally no one left in the place but us and her and a bartender. Via Western Union, I got on Value jet for Atlanta and Matt, Winston and Sean took the van back to San Francisco.
