tour 2.02
Friday, March 15 1996 Memphis TN Barrister’s
Matt - Tonight we met Finn from Indiana. Zeph had given out some tapes of DESTROY when he was in Bloomington in September ‘95 and somehow this kid got one and ended up at a show in Memphis with three of his friends. Some friends from Boston were flying to Asia, had a layover in Memphis that night, and ended up at the club. There was a bad punk band with five friends. Some local drunks. We ran the door and kept all the money: $113. I don’t know how it happened but it’s our current record in Memphis.
Zeph - By the end of the night, I was behind the bar and everyone was wasted.
Saturday, March 16 1996 Augusta GA Fight night at Squeeky’s
M- Tyson vs. Bruno on PPV. We played right after the fight. Everyone was cheering for Bruno, I liked Tyson in this one. At some point in the evening a guy asked the door man, “so we got some damn Yankees coming in here tonight?” But the door man was a nice guy from Baton Rouge. Tension running high anyway, people were talkin shit, some drunk redneck asshole was fucking with Carol while we played. I didn’t even see it because I have to stare at the floor when we play. They don’t really know us there so a couple of us act tough and the guy apologies but we never went to our next show there and we never go back at all.
Z - We played with some band who’s guitar player we heard was in James Brown’s band. We saw him on Letterman a couple months later.
Wednesday, March 20 1996 Chapel Hill NC Local 506
Z - We love Dave and Monica at the 506 but all of our shows suck there. (see 3/29/97) We usually end up meeting some good people and tonight it was a guy named Ray, a bourbon expert. We stayed with him in Raleigh which is not far and taped some of his records the next morning before we left.
Thursday, March 21 1996 Huntington WV The Drop Shop
Z - This was the last time we worked with Barlow because his life of true crime kept him on the move for awhile until he turned up booking Waylon Jennings. We played with some very good friends from Boston who were called Swank. No one was there but Barlow bought us drinks, started a big argument with Sean and threw a glass at Swank’s singer.
