Wednesday, January 15 1997 Burlington VT Club Toast w/Come
Zeph - Mikey Welsh who ended up replacing Andre, came along for the ride on this one. Come had a relatively new line-up, new instrumentation. They sounded great but there was not much of a crowd. On the way home Aaron missed an exit and turned a 5 hour drive into 8. He drove the whole way and then went straight to work at the liquor store at 9AM when we finally got home.
Carol - left boston around noon. Mikey came with us. it was a 5 hr drive. a beautiful new england weather. the drive up was pleasant. burlington's a quaint, hippy dippy college town. there was snow on the ground and it was cold. andré was already there. he rented a car and drove up by himself to get some tattoo work done on his arm. Come was already there when we arrived. i was a little star struck and nervous. eleven used to be one of my favorite albums. went to a thai restaurant after soundcheck to get a bite to eat. a girl from SFAI recognized me on the street. we played a good show but there was hardly anyone there. i fucked up the first song. met thalia and chris. they liked us i think. aaron drove after the show and me and matt fell asleep on the bed. aaron took back roads so we didn't get back into boston until 7 the next morning and matt had to be dropped off at the co-op for his morning shift. i felt really bad.
Thursday, January 30 1997 New York NY The Cooler
Z - This place treated us better than most clubs in NY. We met Naomi. She was working for Slash Records and we’d been talking to her for a couple of weeks. She came down early and took us out to dinner. The president of Slash and Ben Lazar and a couple of other people were there. We had the usual array of amp problems. No sound-check, terrible mix, Matt’s voice was buried. Andre fell over into my drum kit twice. But it wasn’t cool. It sucked. Naomi ended up getting fired from Slash and leaving the business altogether. Ben Lazar was let go from EMI.
C- I had been hanging out in new york already. took a cab down to the cooler. the van was already there and the boys were waiting for the club to open. so we just drove over to the japanese restaurant where we were supposed to meet naomi for dinner. the first time anyone’s ever taken the band out for dinner becuz they were interested in us. i felt special. the show went pretty well. rob and his friend, zach came. hung out with ben lazar, naomi, rob and this guy who was there to interview us. everyone got really fucked up and it was a lot of fun.
Thursday, March 20 1997 Cambridge MA TT the Bear’s
C- played with i am japan and it was a stupid show. it was cold and nobody showed up except for jason the guy i work with. he was really drunk and talked my ears off about how much he liked the band. the amp fuse blew up during soundcheck.
Sunday, March 23 1997 Boston MA Jacques’
C- it was, well, an acoustic night. adam’s thrown-together-at-the-last-minute band wasn’t great but they didn’t get on my nerves. we played very well.
