Chevy Heston 1986-1998

tour 4.06

Tuesday, April 15 1997 Salt Lake City UT Cinema Bar w/Surly

Matt - This night ended up being the beginning of the end of touring for me. Although we would hit the road a few more times after this tour, there was something indescribable that was triggered in me that made me lose any hope that we would ever become any more successful. We had played many shows in the past with even less people watching us, so it wasn’t that. Besides, this illustrator kid made this amazing flier for the show that depicted scenes from a couple songs on Destroy. I was broken.

Zeph - This one was bad.

Andre - I had seen movies before in cinemas this size and had been the only one there, but now, beingon stage in front of the screen I knew how the movie must have felt.  We leave for Portland and listen to Royal Trux “Thank You” and Palace Bros. “Viva Last Blues.”Money is low, drugs are gone, tension has returned.

Carol - played at spark’s a.k.a. cinema bar with surly, Leif’s band. we sounded really nice from the stage tonight. Zeph told me that he got a page from Rob yesterday. Rob was in a hospital. he got into an accident in arkansas. his car got totaled and he was hurt but ok. i blame it on Memphis.

Thursday, April 17 1997 Portland OR The O Z - I was still fucked-up from the previous 4 days, during which time I had booked this show. I think I booked it that day from the phones at Powell’s bookstore up the street. It was a super low-rent underage vegan/punk club near the river. The guy Jonathan who was running the place was older and liked us. He got on the mic and yelled at all the punks for being so lame as to just sit outside and not even check us out. We tried to play it more punk for them. It was funny. Nashville Pussy was playing around the corner at Satyricon.

A- If I was a fifteen year old crust-punk runaway I don’t think I would have liked us very much either.

C- our show in reno got canceled but they wired us the money anyway ($100). we went to the record store where Leif works and looked at cd’s and Leif gave us free postcards. Jason took me for a spin on his motorcycle which was really cool. i think Rick finally got sick of us. me and Matt had lunch alone in portland’s chinatown. the restaurant was big and empty and dripping pink. we had a good time hanging out by ourselves for a little while. god, this was like one of the worst shows ever. this place was a little cafe/thrift store/punk rock venue. i don’t know how we got booked here. we were like the first band in a string of like 20 punk rock bands booked here tonight. the kids were mean and stupid. we zipped through our set and got the hell outta there. they gave us $6.
