Chevy Heston 1986-1998

tour 4.07

Friday and Saturday, April 18, 19 1997 Seattle WA the OK Hotel

Zeph - A couple friends of ours from Maine had moved out there and were working at the OK Hotel. They did their best and the shows weren’t bad but not what we were hoping for. They let us stay in the apartment upstairs from the club and paid us $500 altogether which we spent most of in their restaurant downstairs during the 4 days we were there. We played so much Risk. I think people were embarrassed for us. Our friend Scott took us to the waterfall from the opening sequence of Twin Peaks.

Andre - The pot in Seattle was like sculpture.  Everyone had these beautifully manicured buds that were so well groomed it almost seemed a shame to smoke it. We hung out with Ben S., who told us he got a DUI on his way home after hanging out the first night. We always opened our sets with ‘See You In Court,’ to ‘Rich Freak’ to ‘Recovery Systems’ etc. focusing on the Sterilized disc. We played an acoustic set in Seattle though and changed the set up to include a couple of songs of the first album. It was a nice change. Spent a lot of time on my own, walking through the city which reminded me a lot of home but in reverse. A lot of hills to climb and the sun set on the wrong side of the ocean. Pavement is in town; why do shitty bands follow me around?

Carol - ok we got here early around 1 in the morning. we’ll be staying here for the next 4 days playing 3 shows. the guy who manages this place just recently moved here from maine so he knew about us and that’s how we got this deal. i was told that this club was in that grunge movie singles. the place where brigette fonda’s character worked at as a waitress and matt dillon’s grungy character hung out all the time. it’s located in the skid row section of the city. Erica flew out here to see Aaron and they got a hotel and we stayed upstairs in the club where John the manager and his girlfriend Mello actually lived. it’s like a cave up there but we couldn’t complain. i was convinced that the whole place was haunted. me Matt and Zeph walked around checking out seattle and spending money on expensive coffees and delicious japanese lunch and smoking pot in the school yard. seattle reminded me a lot of SF.

i like this place. i love the pacific ocean and i love being near it. our show was pretty good. we played with some local bands. spent $40 on really good weed. we had a really good breakfast and befriended a waiter at the club. his name is Scott and he turned out to be this really awesome person. he said he loved el flaco so i gave him an el flaco sticker i got in austin. we did some more sight seeing like going down to the pike street market which i really liked. we had lunch there. we had so much time to kill so we basically played risk non-stop except for stopping to play the show and to eat. i got really good and started taking people out. i think we started to get on club people’s nerves already. our show wasn’t as good as last night’s. oh, well. they gave us $200 again and we spent another $40 on more good weed.

we are still here and we have one more show to play. we just played risk and tried to stay out of their way but i think they are really getting sick of us anyway. anytime anybody from the club walked by our table they just sort of had this half smile and half “oh, god” look on their faces and treated us in a very patronizing manner. but we didn’t care. we had nowhere else to go. we sort of adopted this place as our headquarters these past few days. Ben shephard from sound garden came by our table and told us that he liked our set. they had just broken up and he was kind of just moping around the club but we were too busy playing risk. our little show in the smaller room of the club was kinda dumb. John wasn’t around for any of our shows for some reason. we are getting sick of this place. but we’ve been eating very well at the club, half price for the band.

our fourth and last day in Seattle. we met Scott for breakfast and he took us to see this beautiful place called Snoqualmie falls. we hiked around and had fun. it was good to get out of OK for a change. we stayed at Scott’s becuz basically the OK people didn’t want us to stay there any more. he shared this warehouse loft with 3 other people. they had an amazing view of Seattle through these huge windows they had. scott said he’ll be moving to austin in a couple of months then he’s heading down to South America to hook up with his girlfriend. he’s one of the best people i ever met.
