Tuesday, April 22 1997 Missoula MT Jay’s Upstairs w/ Mike and Rick, Sasshole
Matt - This ended up being the best time we ever had in Missoula. Probably because we didn’t actually have to set up and play. We had had a blowout on the highway, which then led to the entire cooling system breaking. We were stopped for many hours in Coeur d’Alene, ID. I was a little freaked out because I remembered that this town was a center for Aryan Nation. I didn’t want to be in such a place.
Zeph - We had a blow out in Idaho and it ruptured some corroded pipes in our heating system which was fucking up our engine. We had a friendly state trooper come by and help us to the next exit where there was an auto parts store. It took us a couple hours to get things moving again and we missed our show. The club still fed us and invited us back. We stayed with some of the people who played that night.
Carol - we got up and left Seattle. we were having a great time driving through beautiful idaho when one of the tires blew out. a pipe exploded along with the tire and there was this green liquid all over the road. this nice state trooper came to our rescue. we got to the next exit and parked outside this auto parts store.
Zeph and Aaron tried to fix the van and i guess they did a good job cuz they got the van running but we had wasted 3-4 hours already. i cut Matt’s hair while waiting for the van to get fixed.
we hurried to missoula as fast as we could but we were too late. the people at the club were nice about the whole thing anyway and gave us some bean burritos and doritos with salsa and some beer and $6. we found a place to crash at some kid’s house. they had a pool table and a ton of pabst blue ribbon and their roommate woke up and yelled at him for being inconsiderate. i played double with these girls from Sasshole. Milly, one of the girls, i found out, loved Stompbox and freaked out when i told her that Zeph used to be in that band. but Zeph was convinced that she was thinking of some other band. there was this kid who got dick trickle’s name confused with cock chuckles and it was really funny. we bought an eighth for $25 from some kid at the party.
Andre - That’s funny all these years I thought I went to Bozeman. If I had been by myself with engine trouble I would have just stared at the van and hope that it fixed itself. I was really impressed by Zeph’s resourcefulness. He bypassed the AC/heatline and got us back on the road. Later, I was chased around the pool table all night by a rather large and overly friendly female “fan.” I was really annoyed. Despite all my drunken behavior to this point I actually displayed some good judgement for once. Missoula becomes the first in a string of shows starting in cities and/or states starting with the letter M.
Wednesday, April 23 1997
C - our show in sioux falls got canceled and we were completely broke. we had spent all the money we earned in seattle on food and weed. so Matt got $100 wired to him. we just hung out and left late afternoon. it was raining.
Thursday, April 24 1997 Minneapolis MN 7th Street Entry
Z - 7th Street is good place to play in Minneapolis and I wanted us to do well there but we didn’t.
A - It was a nice stage, but I thought we were supposed to be supporting Low or Blonde Redhead? Another town another empty club.
C - we thought we were supposed to play with Blond Redhead but they weren’t billed with us somehow. it was a lame show but i was still glad to see the hometown of the artist and where brenda and brandon (from 90210) used to live. this kid was putting up posters for nashville pussy and pleasure fuckers’ upcoming show so we got to talking about them and he gave me a poster. the sound guy nick asked us if we knew Todd Phillips. we said yeah and he asked us to say hello.
Friday, April 25 1997 Madison WI O’Cayz
Z - This show was pretty good. There were a lot of people who had heard of us and the crew at the club had become good friends of ours. The crowd at O’Cayz is generally rowdy in a great way. We had the weekend off so Andre went to see his girlfriend in Milwaukee and rest of us stayed with friends. We got more speed and it was much better than the stuff in Denver.
A - Down in the basement where every band had tagged their name on the wall, was some Dogmatics graffiti. Later, Tim Downie told me that they in fact had been there 10 years earlier.Crashed at somebodies house after the show. Some dying cancer patients medicine chest had been raided at the contents were, in part distributed to us. It was oxy-codone though and not OC’s.It’s an amateur mistake and happens all the time.
