Andre - I ate a bag of mushrooms on my way to the bus station, on my way to Milwaukee. 45 minutes later I puked a significant portion of them back up in the Greyhound parking lot.

Carol - nicole took us around the town and madison turned out to be this really cute college town. andré went to see his girlfriend who came out to visit a friend from boston so he wasn’t around. we went grocery shopping and zeph cooked dinner. nicole showed us video of her boyfriend’s band Pachinko playing at the gillman st in SF. they are on jello biafra’s alternative tentacle.

Sunday, April 27 1997

C - we left madison when the other boys woke up and we got andré. all this partying i’ve been doing lately is finally catching up with me. i felt so shitty. we got into kalamazoo real late. kathryn’s friend, john fisher let us stay at his place. their friends were hanging out when we got there. i had a beer and crashed. i felt like dying.

Monday, April 28 1997 Kalamazoo MI Club Soda

Zeph - The show wasn’t so hot. We stayed with our friend Jon who’s got a big comfortable loft with a garage for the van. We listened to Wesley Willis and smoked pot and drank.

C - kathryn's friend liz from last night was still around and we just hung out with them till we had to play. we went to some park that had these strange sculptures of children. kalamazoo's boring. our show was so-so. we crashed at john fisher's again.

Tuesday, April 29 1997 Detroit MI the Magic Stick

A - The theater where Houdini played his last show. The club, above the bowling alley, is about the size of a city block and the stage must be six feet high. We are completely alone in it. Detroit is the most depressing city I have ever seen. We ask a cop for directions on the way out of town and he tells us “when you come to any stop signs, whatever you do, don’t stop.”

Z - All the excesses of this tour came back on me tonight and I played about as poorly as I ever have. Detroit is terrible. This place was huge and it was empty. Up two flights of stairs. Our friends Liz and Kathryn were there and we stayed with them at Liz’s mom’s house, a small mansion on Grosse Isle in the Detroit river and I fell asleep for the first time since Friday.

C - this place is so depressing, it’s out of this world. it really feels like there’s violence and despair lurking in every corner of this desolate town. we went to get some smokes in a group and they all had bullet proof windows and bars everywhere. we had to drag everything upstairs and it was a big pain in the ass. there were like 10 people in the audience including kathryn, liz and her mom. the magic stick is huge and it has several huge rooms for different types of entertainment like bowling and vegas type shows.  i was taking some pictures of the club as we were packing up and one of the street dudes who happened to be around became totally paranoid and started asking me why i took pictures of him so i had to explain to him that i was taking pictures of the club not him and it’s for personal use only. still he was a little excited about the whole ordeal and so the doorman who saw the whole thing stepped in and told the guy to leave me alone. then the doorman started talking to us and showed us this hall where houdini supposedly performed his last show. this place was eerie but interesting. he showed us his gun. everyone in detroit must be hard-assed to be able to live here. we left to go stay at liz’ mom’s house on grosse isle. i think no white people actually live in detroit, maybe really poor ones.
