Sunday, July 6 1997
Matt - Those guys were still tripping when we all got into the van to leave Missoula. Like every time we leave a town, I was anxious to leave. Always anxious to leave. We had to drive to Salt Lake City, where based on past visits there, we should have some fun and actually entertain a few people. I was driving and those two trippers were so fucking annoying. At one point Mikey removed his shoes and socks. He was lying on the platform bed built into the van, with his now bare and disgusting feet right next to my head. I screamed for him to get his fucking disgusting, black and rotten-looking feet away from my head or I was going to crash the van. I think it was here that Zeph, Mikey, and Todd started to frequently quote “Electric Avenue”
Carol - i woke up and i really missed my apt., my bathroom, my bedroom, my kitchen, my clothes, and speaking of clothes, i realized that i had left my sweater at the club last night. we drove over to this strip that had a gas station/convenient store, subway, and chinese restaurant. even though i knew the food was gonna be bad, i was jonesing for rice so much i didn’t care. i marched right in to the restaurant and ordered one steamed rice and one hot and sour soup. so i guess i was really home-sick and food-sick. and this is my sob story for this tour. i got into an argument with matt cuz he didn’t want to drive back to the club with me to get the sweater or something silly like that. so there were all these things stirring up my emotions and in the end i couldn’t hold back the tears. i was pissed and i was sad and i cried and i got over it by mid-afternoon.
Monday, July 7 1997 Salt Lake City UT Burt’s
Zeph - We had a day off in SLC yesterday and it was miserable and boring with an acid hangover on top of it. Went to Burt’s when we got into town and they gave us some free beer and we watched a band that made us all even more irritable. The next day we all got showers at Jason and Rick’s and went over to Burt’s and had a great show. Got paid and had a great party at the boys’ house afterwards. Salt Lake City loves to party with Chevy Heston.
C - i laid out on Rick and Jason’s porch gettin some sun and painting my nails. Jason took me to a shoe repair shop and bought me and Matt lunch at the same vietnamese restaurant we went last time we were here, where André caused that now infamous scene. our show was fun. i played pool with this really old guy who moved here from mississipi or something. Matt shared buffalo wings with him. there was this girl who was totally shit faced and she kept shouting shit at us during our set. later i found out that she used to live with Joy back in her utah days. we went back to Rick and Jason’s afterwards. jason came back with bags of groceries and made us dinner. hung out with the people that were at the show and drank lots of pabst. todd and i started dancing and the place turned into saturday night fever. i met a guy named John Bean who also knew Joy and i gave him her address. there was this girl who used to live in slummerville and she kept asking me to come over to her house to “sleep.” i turned down the offer. Mikie just stayed upstairs talking to Jennifer on the phone. we had a blast getting fucked up and just being silly.
