tour 6.02
Tuesday, October 21 1997 Cincinnati OH Sudsy Malone’s
Carol - alex made us a nice vegetarian breakfast when we got up. Roman took us to the record store where he works. we pretended like we were royal trux to impress the people at the record store or something. i don’t know if it worked. it was sad to say goodbye but time to leave. our cincy friends Leslie and LH met us at the club. our show was weird. there were some people and they didn’t know what to make of us. the computer on stage and no drums really threw people off. this kid who knew our songs got up on stage and played real drums on the last couple of songs. i think people started to relax a little when they heard real drum sound. Leslie told me later that the kid saved our set or something to the effect which was a stupid thing to say cuz he didn’t. we drove over to Leslie and LH’s apt and played computer risk.
Zeph - We had some people who drove in from Dayton or someplace to see us. The show was good. Some of the people from the opening band were fans of Destroy and their drummer played a couple songs with us. “That’s what drugs are for”, and something else I think. As usual we stayed with Leslie and LH. LH gave us a computer version of RISK and it ending up totally consuming us for most of the tour. Simon was turning out to be a great person to travel with and he didn’t seem to mind us being on tour while he was trying to get home.
Matt - Another case of people that save your ass from the hazards of the shitty indie tour. These people in Cincinnati were top-notch, with the biggest of hearts. I thought the music was coming together nicely, we got to be a more mellow and a little warmer version of Chevy Heston. Each night had a different result quality-wise, but when we were good, we were great, and when we sucked, it was totally awful!
C - we got up and had breakfast with leslie at some breakfast place. zeph and matt reprogrammed some of the drum beats and i worked on our merch flyer. a very productive day it was. we had this idea to cover ‘loose’ by the stooges. we fantasized doing the song live then soon aborted the idea. we hauled all our gear up to leslie’s apt. for the fear of gettin them stolen. it was a big pain in the ass considering the van was parked 2 blocks down across the street from the apt.. then for the rest of the day we played risk. i was kickin everyone’s ass. we have no show today.
Thursday, October 23 1997 Chicago IL Lounge Ax
M - The sound was amazing at this show and sound man was really nice. I like the mood we created here.
C - chicago. this is where we started our last tour. a quiet night. the show was lame and i didn’t find my keys. the club people were nice enough to let us stay upstairs from the club. it looked like a run down apt. it was big and we had a good view of the street and even mattresses. we felt safe up there.
Z - We came up to Chicago the day before the show and moved into the apartment upstairs from the club where we set up the computer and played risk and ate burritos and got drunk and high for two days. We barely moved any further than the bathroom. Our show sounded ok but it was an empty, boring night.
C - all day long we just hung out upstairs and played risk and got high. Simon’s gettin into risk and our tour pattern now. i like Simon. he’s easy to get along with.
Friday, October 25 1997 Madison WI O’Cayz Corral
C - me, Matt, and Simon had breakfast over at this nice restaurant across from the club when we got up. Zeph wanted to sleep longer. i found out more about Simon and his unique family situation. the food was satisfying and we were ready to leave chicago. it seems like we’ve been locked up upstairs for weeks already. we went back upstairs to get Zeph and got our stuff and left for madison. we wondered what this show’s gonna be like cuz we did so well last time. but we didn’t do so well this time. Nicole and Brian were on vacation. the response was rather cold. i wanted to leave as soon as we were done playing. i don’t think people like us with the computer and no drums. oh well, we’re not doing it for them anyway.
Z - The O’Cayz crowd wasn’t diggin the drum machine so much. But it’s always good to be in Madison.
