Chevy Heston 1986-1998

tour 5.12

Saturday, July 12 1997 Morgantown WV Nyabinghi

Zeph - I love bringing people to the Nyabinghi for the first time. A typical all-niter. The show was ok. Mikey and I got into a big argument after we played and it sent the rest of the night off in a strange way. He wanted to leave, and I told him no way. No one else was into leaving either. We were all too fucked up. Usually Matt or Todd would stay sober if we were driving after the show but not in West Virginia. At about 7 the next morning I ended up crawling under the van in the parking lot beside the club because it was the only place with any shade that I could get a couple of hours sleep. There was so much hate in the van for the first 9 or 10 hours of the drive home but then in Connecticut, we heard Sussudio, which we’d had an argument about a few weeks before, on the radio and we all got a laugh together. We saw a replica of the General Lee in a rest area. I was asleep when we dropped Mikey and Todd off and they didn’t wake me up to say goodbye.

Carol - aaahhhh…nyabinghi’s finally! every time i come through this place i marvel at how dark and gloomy and dirty this place is. it is 100 times grungier than any place i’ve been in seattle. only a few people can appreciate this dirty and smelly dungeon and i got the feeling that Mikie and Todd weren’t them. and Kathryn was with us also. it just didn’t feel right. some things have changed since the last time we were here. Greg was now divorced, thanks to us. and there was this new woman and she was trouble. i smelled it after 2 minutes into our first conversation. she was way too open with me from the get-go. as the night got darker, it got crazier. we were all hanging out up in Greg’s office, lookin at our publicity photo for the first time when we heard some screaming and yelling and thumping and kicking between a woman and a man and it turns out that it was Greg’s new woman and her ex-boyfriend or something who tracked her down here to get even or some soap opera like that. and Greg kicked his ass out the door. Greg, i heard, was a wrestling champion back in his school days. other than that, it was just another night at nyabinghi’s. our show sucked. no big surprise there. i saw John Cale very briefly. he was really fucked up. Mikie was being a big baby. he kept insisting on we leave right away and he and Zeph got into a fight over it. anyway we didn’t end up leaving til like 1 or 2 the next day.

it was really hot and Mikie kept sticking his big smelly bare foot out into the front seat and matt got really annoyed. i painted his toenails to cancel out the smell. i got my period. we stopped at wendy’s and it took us forever to get back. Mikie and Zeph made up when that gay song “Sussudio” came on the radio. it took forever to get back home. we dropped everyone off and me, Matt and Zeph were the only ones left and it was like 2 in the morning. we were driving down comm ave toward allston when the door’s “the end” came on the radio and that was the end of this tour.
